Public Collectors joins countless other friends and allies in mourning the death of the much loved artist and activist Dara Greenwald who died on January 9, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. This silkscreen print was sent to me by Dara and her amazing life partner Josh MacPhee in January 2011 as a gift for helping them out a bit with their mounting medical expenses. It does a wonderful job of capturing Dara’s radiant spirit and energy. Work by Dara can be found all over the web. I recommend visiting her website, the website of the Justseeds Collective (Dara was a member), the Pink Bloque archive website, and this page with documentation of her work in the group Spectres of Liberty. You should also follow the Tumblr blog of Interference Archive, an initiative in Brooklyn that she and Josh just launched to help preserve materials generated out of social movements, including many items that Dara collected about feminist punk music.
