I’m sure I’ll return to this publication every now and then for blog posts as it is filled with compelling images with narrative qualities that extend beyond their intended illustrative purpose.

One of many sensitive, almost photographic, pencil drawings from the 1921 book The After-Treatment of Surgical Patients by Willard Bartlett. Many of these drawings, divorced from their illustrative context, have a poetic quality that makes their meaning feel more open than specifically intended.
